HELLO BARCELONA ( DAY 1)

Wednesday, 23 September 2015

We have landed! Welcome to Barcelona!

Travelling from Barcelona Airport to the City Centre was very easy. (We were prepared :p )
We purchased a T-10 ticket from a Tobacco Shop (as it is not available from the ticket machine) and then made our way to the Train Station. This was the best and cheapest way for us to travel around the city as recommended by many on Tripadvisor.

The T-10 ticket can be used by 2 people and as the name says it, allows you to travel 10 trips on any trains and metro. It also includes the Funiculars.

As we were expecting to walk almost everywhere during our trip, the T-10 ticket was enough for the 2 full days we had in the wonderful city of Barcelona.

Tickets in hand, we made our way to the train platform.
Make sure you take the train that goes through Sants, from where you can then change to the City Metro network, taking you to wherever you need to go in the City.

We had chosen Park Hotel for our City Break and it was just perfect. Within easy reach from the train station, located just between Ciutat Vella ( the old city) and Barcelonita (near the beach), we could walk to get anywhere! You can find out about the hotel by clicking here: Park Hotel Barcelona.

As soon as we checked-in, we dropped our bags, quickly refreshed and changed into our Summer wear, got our map out and started exploring the city! It was so good to finally enjoy some warmer weather!

After a lovely walk through the Ciutat Vella / Old City, and then Barri Gotic (The Gothic Quarter) we viewed many sights including Esglesia de Santa Maria del Mar, The History Museum of Barcelona, Placa del Rei, La Catedral and Placa Reial.

We then found ourselves on La Rambla where we leisurely strolled along enjoying the beautiful sunshine!

For the rest of our afternoon, we decided to make our way to Mount Juic to see the view of Barcelona on higher grounds. Not far from La Rambla, look for Paral-lel Metro Station and from there take the funicular up to Parc de Montjuic. We then took the Teleferic car up to the Castle of Montjuic - Castell de Montjuic. There was a small fee to get inside the Castle ( EUR 5 per person) but it was all worth it. This meant that there were no crowds and you could enjoy the amazing views in peace and quiet.
When we arrived, there were a few groups of people already settled comfortably waiting for the sunset which I'm sure must be absolutely gorgeous. (We left before the sunset... maybe next time.)

After the Castell de Montjuic, we took the same route down to the city and then walked towards the Port Vell where we were thinking to grab some dinner...

Unfortunately, we were not too keen on the available choices at Rambla de Mar (too touristy) so we decided to go back to the hotel to try out the Ten's Tapas Restaurant which is on the Ground Floor of Park Hotel. Of course, I had already read all about it and it was one of the reasons why I booked this hotel. :)

Ten's Tapas restaurant holds 2 Michelin Stars and it definitely was as amazing as what the reviews said. What a lovely way to end our first day in Barcelona!
