Since posting the below picture on instagram and Facebook, I received quite a few requests for the recipe I used and here's me sharing with you how I did it.

This weekend I finally got around to finding a decent recipe for making the chinese bun / bao / bap and with the needed ingredients at hand,  I did it and was very pleased with the results given it was my first try!

The Best video recipe I found on YouTube is from Flavours of Asia.
Watch the video below and my tips will follow after ...

Now my list of ingredients ( please note the changes made)

Ingredients :
- 370 grams All purpose flour ( with extra for kneading)
- 1 cup of warm milk
- 2 tablespoon of sugar ( use white caster sugar )
- 1 1/2 teaspoon yeast ( dry yeast is ok)
- 1 1/2 baking powder
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- some extra oil for brushing ( no need to be sesame oil )

Follow the method as on the video. My dough came out like below.

I was pretty happy with that!

For the rest, I followed what was on the video and it all came out pretty good!

As a filling, I used home made crispy fried pork strips, cucumber slices, baby salad leaves and a peppery mayonnaise. But of course u can use anything you want as a filling.
Anything that's crispy and full of flavour would do! Fish fingers is another option you can try or even KFC crispy boneless chicken strips would do wonderfully if you don't wanna deep fry at home.

One thing you will notice is that the buns/ bap I made came out a bit yellowish. This is because I used all purpose flour. I discovered only later, that if you use a different flour, called HK flour, with low gluten content, your dough will be as white as the ones in restaurant. So if you want yours as white as snow, I suggest checking your supermarket or local Chinese store for this special 'white' flour to make bao.

This is it from me! Go give it a try now and show me your end results! :)
